Have A Clear Out For The New Year

Tuesday January 25, 2011

The New Year is typically a time when we want to clear out the old and bring in the new – it’s what a New Year is all about. After Christmas we also tend to get the feeling that we need a new start, and this can apply as much to our homes as anything else.

If you are looking around you and wondering how to clear up your home and make it more appealing, perhaps you should think about making better use of your loft space. If you haven’t already got a loft ladder, think about getting and installing one so you can get up there more readily to use the space. If you do have one and you go up in the loft occasionally, think about going up there more regularly.

In fact this can be a very good tip. Sit down for a moment and think about the last time you went up in your loft. Could you say out loud right now exactly what is up there? Some things need to be kept even if you don’t use them regularly (accounts and other official papers would be a good example) but in other cases you might think that you would fare better if you got rid of some stuff. We all keep junk in our lofts that we could really do without, so why not think about using one day each weekend this January to clear out some stuff?

If you haven’t used your loft as storage yet, now is the time to consider doing just that. The first step is to get a good sturdy loft ladder – don’t be tempted to buy the cheapest thing you can find because it will be flimsier than you would like it to be. Instead, look for stronger ladders that will last longer and give you a lot of use. They will be much easier for you to use and they will also make you feel more confident when climbing up and down them.

In the end a lot of people miss out on using their loft space, when this could in fact be an extra storage room. Some people convert the space of course, but in reality it could be enough to just think about making better use of it as it stands at the moment. Your loft ladder could be the beginning of a new use of space this year.
